Chisinau, 8 December /MOLDPRES/ - About 4,337 families from 27 districts of Moldova have benefited from smoke detectors within a national campaign, A Protected House – A Life Rescued, financed by the state.
The press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), Liliana Puscasu, has said that the installations saved more lives. Just recently, a family with two small children from the Grozesti settlement, central Nisporeni district, has remained alive after the detector alerted them that a fire broke out in the dwelling.
Another two cases of people’s rescuing took place in the settlement Hartopul Mare, central Criuleni district, and Zberoaia, Nisporeni district.
According to IGSU, the goal of setting these devices is to prevent fires and intoxications with carbon monoxide, emanated by failed heating sources, especially fireplaces.
The national campaign will continue in 2019 as well. Elderly people, families with many children and persons with special needs can benefit from smoke detectors free of charge.
IGSU’s statistics shows that 1,492 fires have occurred since early 2018, in the wake of which 89 people died.
