Chisinau, 10 December /MOLDPRES/ - All hotbeds of African swine fever virus (ASFV) have been completely eliminated and the owners of the slaughtered animals are to receive compensations worth about 800,000 lei.
According to the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA), authorities removed the restrictions for the last three hotbeds set in the settlements Paicu and Zarnesti of the southern Cahul municipality. At the same time, specialists continue supervising those 14 hotbeds of ASFV in wild boars, recorded in 2017-2018 and which, under the legislation in force, must be monitored during 24 months. These hotbeds are localized in the districts of Rezina, Orhei, Cimislia, Cahul and Stefan Voda.
The authorities also warn that the risk of the outbreak of a new hotbed was pretty persistent, taking into account that new hotbeds of ASFV appear in neighbouring countries. Thus, so far, about 140 hotbeds have been registered in Ukraine and in Romania - more than 1,100.
This year, 37 hotbeds of ASFV were registered in Moldova, of which 27 in domestic pigs. Almost 600 pigs were slaughtered because of the disease. In the context, authorities demand that the owners of pigs urgently inform in case animals fall sick/die or if corpses of wild boars are discovered.
