Moldovan servicemen detached to KFOR peacekeeping operation start mission in Kosovo

Chisinau, 13 December /MOLDPRES/ - The servicemen of the tenth contingent of the National Army, detached to the KFOR peacekeeping operation, has started its mission in Kosovo.   

According to the Defence Ministry, the military took over the powers of the peacekeepers of the ninth Moldovan contingent at a ceremony of transfer of authority, held at the multinational base Camp Vilaggio Italia of the Pech settlement.     

In the presence of the commander of the Multinational Battle Group — West, colonel Gianfranco Di Marco and of servicemen from Italy, Austria and Slovenia, lieutenant-colonel, commander of KFOR-9 Veaceslav Balan delivered the flag and the powers of the position to lieutenant-colonel Ion Godoroja, who is to hold this office in the next six months.   

The tenth National Army contingent is made up of 41 professional military, of whom seven engineers and a platoon of 33 servicemen. The Moldovan officers and non-commissioned officers will carry out operations of guard and defence of objects of strategic importance, missions of ensuring the security of the base Camp Vilaggio Italia, including the Decani Monastery , as well as missions of research and engineering to discover explosive objects in the area of responsibility.
