Chisinau, 13 December /MOLDPRES/ - Political parties will enter parliament, if they reach the electoral threshold of six per cent and the electoral blocs – eight per cent. The head of the central Electoral Commission (CEC), Alina Russu, has made statements to this effect in an interview given exclusively to MOLDPRES.
The CEC head noted that the electoral threshold for the electoral blocs had been changed. “Blocs can be made up of two, three of more parties,” Russu said.
At the same time, Alina Russu specified that, in the uninominal districts, the independent candidates, those who represent political parties or electoral blocs did not need any electoral threshold. “The formula of relative majority is applied when totalizing the results – the candidate getting most votes will be declared winner in the electoral race,” Russu said.
The parliamentary elections due on 24 February 2019 will be organized based on a mixed electoral campaign for the first time ever. Also, on the election day, a consultative referendum will be held on cutting the number of lawmakers from 101 to 61 and their recalling from office, if failing to fulfill the duties properly.
