National carpet fair returns on Christmas eve in Moldova

Chisinau, 13 December /MOLDPRES/ – The 5th issue of the National Christmas Fair: Covorul Dorului (The carpet of longing) will take place on Sunday, 16 December in Chisinau, at the Christmas Fair.

The event is organised in the context of the registration by Moldova on 01 December 2016 of the candidate file of the Traditional techniques for barking in the UNESCO representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. According to organisers, the purpose of the National Carpet Fair is to capitalise on the authentic Romanian carpet and ethnicity in Moldova, to know the basic motifs and symbols of carpets, and to familiarise with the traditions and customs of the Moldovans. The mistletoe caroling, which is part of the Universal Patrimony in 2013, will be the key moment of the artistic programme.

The official inauguration of the event takes place at the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History (MNEIN) at 14:00.

The 5th issue of the Carpet National Fair is organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC), in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Moldova and other institutions.
