Transnistrian authorities try to remake map of Security Zone

15:40 | 14.12.2018 Category: Official

Chisinau, 14 December /MOLDPRES/ - A new meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) was held in the Bender city on 13 December and was led by Moldova’s delegation, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.

The Moldovan delegation’s efforts for the improvement of the activity of supervision in the Security Zone continued at this meeting too. Thus, the sides were suggested to work out a regulation of the Joint Military Command (a structure subordinated to the Commission, which manages the military component in the Security Zone), as well as creating a mechanism concerning the monitoring of the situation through peacekeepers’ mobile posts.

The steps of the Moldovan side are conditioned by the lack of opportunity of such a regulation, in which the way of acting of military commanders is to be exhaustively stipulated. As for the second aspect, the need comes from the finding out of deficiencies in the process of replacing the stationary peacekeeping posts by mobile ones, in line with the agreements in force.

Regretfully, the beneficial initiative, the goal of which is to avoid destabilizing actions, was not backed by the Transnistrian delegation. The delegation of Russia asked for a break in order to formulate its position.

The JCC members and the military commanders which inspected the post No 9 (right and left) were heard. In this regard, a comprehensive report is to be elaborated and submitted to the Commission.

The participants in the meeting took note of the weekly report of the Joint Military Command for 5-11 December. They heard the sides’ representatives in the Joint Military Command and found out divergences concerning the role of military commanders in the settlements with enhanced security regime.

In the end, Moldova’s delegation submitted to the sides an addressing, thereby unmasking the falsification by Transnistrian representatives of a map, with a wrong mapping out of the Security Zone’s lines, contrary to the geographical coordinates set in 1992.

The Transnistrian structures’ attempt to remodel the limits of the Security Zone has the goal to limit the activities of monitoring on behalf of military observers, especially regarding the Tiraspol city. The participants in the meeting unveiled a string of arguments on this case concerning the fictive character and asked for carrying out a business investigation on the circumstances of the appearance and use of the aforementioned map, with its withdrawal from use.
