Commemorative cross to be awarded to Afghanistan war veterans from Moldova

Chisinau, 14 December /MOLDPRES/ - The war veterans participants in combat actions in Afghanistan will be awarded the Commemorative Cross, Participant in Combat Actions from Afghanistan (1979-1989). The measure is provided for in a draft law, published in Moldova’s Official Journal (Monitorul Official) today.
The Cross will be a state distinction and will be awarded to citizens who participated in the combat actions in Afghanistan on the period 24 December 1979 – 15 February 1989, within the limited contingent of Soviet military troops in this country.
The distinction represents a big Greek Cross, laid on a smaller Greek cross, everything made of silver. A frontal relief figure of the principal monument of the memorial venue, Holy Memory to Sons of the Motherland from Chisinau, made of gold, is represented in the middle of the Cross. The distinction is borne on the left side of the chest.
About 8,500 people will receive the distinctions. Financial means worth about 2.5 million lei was provided for in the state budget for manufacturing these distinctions.
The 30th anniversary of the withdrawal of the limited contingent of Soviet military troops from Afghanistan will be marked on 15 February 2019.
The law enters into force on the date of its publication in the Official Journal.
