Over ten million lei to be needed for holding national referendum in Moldova

Chisinau, 15 December /MOLDPRES/ - Over ten million lei will be necessary for holding the national consultative referendum on 24 February 2019. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) on 14 December approved the expense sheet for organizing the plebiscite.
The referendum will take place on the same day with the parliamentary polls. Citizens will have to answer two questions: whether they “agree with the cutting of the number of MPs from 101 to 61” and whether they agree that “people can recall (dismiss) the lawmakers from office, if they fail to properly fulfill their duties.”
At the consultative referendum, two ballot papers will be proposed to the citizens, as each question will be inserted on a separate ballot paper.
The parliamentary elections due next year will be carried out based on a mixed electoral system, with the MPs due to be elected both on party lists and in electoral districts. As much as 110.2 million lei is needed to hold the ballot.
