Chisinau, 15 December /MOLDPRES/ - The second issue of the European-style Christmas Fair, organized by Moldova’s government, was inaugurated in the centre of Chisinau today evening. The lights on the Christmas Tree were lighted by a group of children from a globe, encouraged by Prime Minister Pavel Filip to provide the first surprise.

In his speech, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, the event’s initiator, said that the winter holidays represented a direct association with the family, with what we have at home. ‘’For me, at home means my family, means my sons, my grandson. At the same time, for me, at home means the native village, where I was born, the hills of Panasesti from the Straseni district. For me, at home means the Chisinau city, where I live and, certainly, for me, at home means Moldova. And I am sure that for you and all our fellow citizens, Moldova means at tome. This Christmas Fair is our present for you,’’ Pavel Filip stressed.

To fully feel the atmosphere of holidays, Pavel Filip went to the wood houses from the Fair, where he tasted pies and mulled wine, as well as discussed with residents and guests of the capital.

In continuation, the band Brio Sonores presented a carol titled Acasă de Crăciun (Christmas at Home), which represents the anthem of the Christmas Fair.

The traditional elements of the Christmas Fair this year too are the Tale Area, where Santa Claus is waiting for the smallest visitors to listen to their poems and to give them presents, the Ice Zone, with the biggest skating rink of the country, three entertainment zones with a Panoramic Wheel, merry-go-rounds and a small train liked by visitors of all ages. Also here, visitors have possibility to enter the Traditions Zone, where they can discover workmanship objects and a diversity of presents for the dear people, displayed in those about 30 houses of traders, as well as the one of Photographs, where the Christmas Tree expects its admirers for photos.

The first evening ended with a recital given by the national folk music orchestra Lautarii (The Fiddlers), led by master Nicolae Botgros.

According to the organizers, just as last year, the Christmas Fair will be the place where the spirit of the winter holidays will be felt also by those more than 5,000 children from placement centres, from hospitals, by children with disabilities, children from socially vulnerable families and children from the left bank of Dniester.
