Chisinau, 17 December /MOLDPRES/- Employees of the Customs Service will operate in special regime during winter holidays to ease cross-border traffic.
According to the Customs Service, the measures provide for increase in the number of staff and verification equipment, and the use of all control lanes, including those on the opposite crossing. Along with inspectors, there will be heads of customs posts and their deputies at customs control.
The anti-fraud officers will also be mobilized. They will take over documenting frauds detected by inspectors from the control line so that they do not have to leave the track to make the notifications provided by the established procedures.
These actions have also been proposed to the customs authorities in Romania and Ukraine, so that customs clearance procedures are accelerated on both sides of the border.
At the same time, by late 2018, the new Palanca border crossing point will be inaugurated, which will be operated jointly by customs and border police officers from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. Thus, checks will be reduced to a single control filter, which will significantly speed the crossing of the border.
From 28 November, travelers can cross the northern segment of the Moldovan-Ukrainian border through the Unguri customs post, open for transport of passengers and goods, with a maximum authorized weight of up to 3.5 tons.
Also, the Customs Service has set up Call Centre (+373 22 574 111) to find information on border crossing rules of various goods or make complaints about abuses committed by employees of the institution.
