Flu makes first victim in Moldova

Chisinau, 18 December /MOLDPRES/ - A 54-year-old woman from the Balti municipality died at the hospital from this city on 15 December, after she had fallen sick and tried to be treated at home.
According to the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, the woman would have fallen ill back on 8 December and attempted to be treated at home. She was hospitalized on 14 December, at the intensive therapy section, in a serious condition, with cough, chills, fever of 39 degrees, coma. The diagnosis was confirmed following the laboratory analysis: A (H1N1) flu type and pneumonia. The woman died on 15 December.
The aforementioned ministry said that ten cases of influenza had been recorded in Moldova since the beginning of the cold season.
Data by the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP) shows that, presently, the epidemiological situation is at a low level in Moldova. According to data received from districts, as many as 85,339 cases of viroses were registered on the period 1 October - 16 December 2018.
To avoid the falling ill, epidemiologists recommend that citizens do not resort to self-treatment and appeal to doctor at the appearance of the first symptoms of disease compatible with influenza. It is necessary to avoid the contact of sick people with pregnant women, immune-compromised persons, people ill with cardiovascular diseases, chronic diseases of the respiratory apparatus, diabetes and obesity.
Also, physicians urge residents and medical staff to use protection masks when assisting and taking care of sick people. Among physicians’ recommendations, there are also washing hands with soap, covering the mouth and nose with disposable papers during cough and sneezing, avoiding crowded places.
