Chisinau, 19 December /MOLDPRES/- Over 2,500 border guards will ensure the flow of cross-border traffic during the winter holidays. The head of the Border Police, Fredolin Lecari, made the statement today.
The number of policemen will be filled with 500 employees. "On 20 December - 20 January, the number of crossings increases significantly, so we decided to fill up the number of employees. On ordinary days, 2,000 police officers are working at the border crossings, and to ease traffic we decided to increase their number to 2,500. Last year, the number of employees was supplemented by 420 people. There are days and hours when the crossing points are crowded, so each head of the sector has the task to form reserve groups that will intervene to avoid the formation of rows. At the same time, additional working groups will be formed to be in the busiest posts. Also, joint teams will be set up to ensure public order at border crossings,” Lecari said.
Lecari said that people with children will have priority at border crossing. "This is the second consecutive year when we implement this step. We ask people crossing the border with their children to notify the police immediately. We have also taken steps to reduce data processing time. Employees will make every effort to ensure quick border crossing. At the same time, we urge citizens to be understanding, and if they have further questions to call Green Line, " Lecari said.
According to Border Police data, during the winter holidays, there is traffic of over 1.5 million crossings and over 400 thousand crossings with the means of transport. Among the most transited posts is Chisinau International Airport, where during the holidays there are over 200 thousand crossings, which represents an increase of 11% compared to the previous years. At the same time, the leadership of the institution assured that the 33 border crossing points with Ukraine are working normally.
