System of rural research, education, extension in agricultural sector to be reorganized in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 December /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved an action plan on the reorganization of the system of rural research, innovation, education and extension in the agro-food sector.
According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the cabinet is set to modernize the agricultural sector in Moldova by implementing the results of the scientific researches and technological innovations, through creation of jobs, as well as for ensuring the competitiveness of Moldovan farming products on world markets.
The plan on restructuring provides for the reorganization of several education, research and innovation institutions in the agro-food sector, having at the basis the results of the assessing of the logistic and human potential within the system, as well as the re-evaluation of the state order for training specialists in the agro-food sector.
At the same time, decision-makers will carry out activities to ensure the competitiveness of the agro-food institutions, providing the sector with qualified specialists and farmers’ access to the best agricultural practices.
The financial means needed for the work of the new entity will be earmarked from the state budget, international grants and from the turning to account of sources got from the sale of unused assets, as well as from the providing of extension services.
Presently, there are 41 research and education institutions specialized in agriculture in Moldova. Prime Minister Pavel Filip has earlier severely criticized the inefficient work of the research and education institutions specialized in agriculture and demanded elaboration of a plan on their reorganization.
