Pilot project on nourishment in education institutions, based on externalizing services, to be launched in central Moldova district

Chisinau, 19 December /MOLDPRES/ - A pilot project on organizing children’s nourishment in education institutions will be implemented in the central Straseni district. The new model will be based on the externalization of these services, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
For this, the cooking rooms, canteens, storehouses for preserving products will be merged at the level of settlement and will switch to the management of the economic agent, from which the nourishment serviced will be purchased. The expenses will be optimized and the quality of services provided will be improved in this way.
The economic agent will renovate and endow with the needed equipment the rooms for cooking and preserving dishes, will provide training and payment of salaries to the staff. At the same time, the building’s supply with water and sewerage services, connection to the network of gas and setting the roof is entrusted with the local public administration. The contracts with the economic operator could be signed for a period of up to five years.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip voiced hope that this pilot project would be an example for externalizing nourishment services in the education institutions from all over Moldova. “This project will bring, on the one hand, savings and on the other hand, quality, when we talk about children’s nourishment in education institutions from Moldova,” the PM stressed.
The new model will give the pupils from the gymnasium and lyceum forms possibility to be nourished at school with cooked meal against payment. At present, all pupils from the primary school (139,673 children) are nourished free of charge. The state also pays two thirds of the daily cost of nourishment of children from kindergartens and crèches (142,216 children).
The implementation of the pilot project will start in ext April. The spending will be covered from the national public budget, from resources of the Straseni district council and the economic agent.
