Departed Moldovan writer, cinema man commemorated at 80th birthday anniversary

Chisinau, 20 December /MOLDPRES/ – An evening of commemoration of the filmmaker Valeriu Gagiu, writer, poet, translator and journalist, 80 years from his birth and 8 years since his passing into eternity, took place today at the National Library (BNM).
During the event two volumes were released: biobibliography Valeriu Gagiu by Cezara Neagu and anthology Valeriu Gagiu: the film of a destiny, edited under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research of Moldova, in collaboration with the Institute of Cultural Heritage, habilitat Ana Maria – Plamadeala, associate professor Dumitru Olarescu, conception Zinaida Timofti.
Writer Andrei Strambeanu, moderator of the event, said that volume: Valeriu Gagiu: the film of a destiny is an encyclopedia about Valeriu Gagiu, which contains all that has been written about him.
The director of BNM, Elena Pintilei, mentioned that biobibliography: Valeriu Gagiu by Cezara Neagu highlights the entire creation of Valeriu Gagiu and is a tribute to the late man of culture, poet, playwright, screenwriter and director.
The director of the National Centre for Cinematography, Valeriu Jereghi, remarked that film: Omul merge dupa soare of the late filmmaker was a cameron in our cinema, and art critic Larisa Ungureanu mentioned that Valeriu Gagiu was a pillar of national cinema.
The writer and filmmaker Valeriu Gagiu was born on 01 May 1938 in Chisinau. In 1963 he graduated from the Moscow Union of Cinematography. He translated into Russian poem: Moartea caprioarei. His films: Omul merge dupa soare, Cand pleaca cocorii, Gustul painii, Corbii prada n – o impart, Detinutul misterios etc. were rewarded with prestigious awards at several international festivals. In 1998 Valeriu Gagiu was decorated with Order of the Republic, and in 2010 he was awarded the honorary title Artist of the People. He left life on 21 December 2010 in Chisinau.
