Chisinau, 21 December /MOLDPRES/ - A new headquarters of Moldova’s Prosecutor General’s Office was inaugurated in the centre of Chisinau today.
The Superior Council of Prosecutors, Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes and the principal office of the Moldovan capital’s prosecutor’s office will have their headquarters in the same building.
Attending the event, Prosecutor General Eduard Harunjen stressed that about 500 people would work at the new headquarters. “It is about: prosecutors, consultants, of the prosecutor, inspectors, officers detached to the specialized prosecutor’s office, specialists, technical and auxiliary staff. The concentration of more prosecutor’s offices in a building will make the work of prosecutors more dynamic and the access of people to justice will be facilitated. At the new headquarters, prosecutors will have better conditions for work,” Harunjen noted.
For her part, Justice Minister Victoria Iftodi emphasized that the today’s event was extremely important in the process of reforming the prosecutor general’s office. “We focus on ensuring the independence and transparentization of prosecutors’ activity. We want them to work according to the European standards, in line with people’s expectations. The government will further provide needed support for the consolidation and reformation of the prosecution and the judicial system, in order to ensure fair judicial decisions,” Iftodi said.
Seven buildings from the Moldovan capital, where the offices of the institutions merged in a single headquarters were placed, will be released after the switch to the new headquarters.
The new headquarters has three floors and an area of about 3,400 square metres. In November 2017, the real estate was switched, on a free basis, from the management of the general department for the management of Moldovan government’s buildings to the one of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
