Number of students admitted to universities decreases in Moldova

Chisinau, 21 December /MOLDPRES/ - The number of students admitted to universities from Moldova has dropped in this academic year. The National Statistics Bureau (BNS) unveiled data to this effect today.
Thus, in the beginning of the 2018-2019 academic year, there were more than 60,000 students, which is by about 5,000 less against the previous academic year. The number of students studying on contracts basis decreased most of all.
In the current academic year, 13,500 persons were admitted to undergraduate studies and 5,400 people were admitted to education for master’s degree. Less young people were admitted on contracts basis to the state education institutions against the 2017-2018 academic year; at the same time, the number of those admitted to undergraduate studies with budget financing increased by 7.4 per cent.
The specialties for which most students opted are: law, business and administration, accounting, finance and banks, marketing and logistics, medicine, information technology, hotel services, tourism.
At the same time, more than 4,000 foreign citizens, coming from such countries as Israel, Romania, India, Ukraine and Turkey, study in Moldova.
There are 29 higher education institutions in Moldova.
