Chisinau, 26 December /MOLDPRES/ - Joint teams will patrol the state border between Moldova and Romania. The government today approved a protocol providing for this fact, signed in Bucharest one month ago.

The document was signed to improve the cooperation between the border institutions from the two states and to enhance the level of supervising the common border, in order to fight the cross-border criminality, especially the illegal crossing of the frontier on the purpose of contraband and illegal migration.

At the cabinet meeting, Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan said that the protocol had a localized territorial applicability along the Moldovan-Romanian joint state border, on a zone of ten km from the border line to the inside of the territory of the two states. As an exception, territorial applicability can be extended also outside the operation zone, due to the configuration of the land the road infrastructure.

The joint patrol is practiced in most European countries, especially by the states situated at the external borders of the European Union.
