National system of monitoring greenhouse gas emissions to be established in Moldova

Chisinau, 26 December /MOLDPRES/ - A national system of monitoring and reporting the greenhouse gas emissions will be established in Moldova. A regulation on the creation and work of the new system was approved at a cabinet meeting today.
Under the document, more central specialty bodies of public administration, central administrative authorities or the ones subordinated to ministries and several state enterprises will be part of the national system of monitoring and reporting the greenhouse gas emissions.
At the cabinet meeting, Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Minister Nicolae Ciubuc said that the draft’s goal was to create a legal framework for the monitoring of all greenhouse gas emissions and to assess the progress made in fulfilling the national and international commitments as to the emissions.
At the same time, the document establishes the procedure of collection, processing and reporting of data on the greenhouse gas emissions to the secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, ratified by Moldova.
