Over 100 candidates for position of parliament member submit applications for registration in uninominal constituencies of Moldova

Chisinau, 27 December /MOLDPRES/ – Over 100 applications were submitted on the first day of appointment and registration of candidates for the position of MP in uninominal constituencies.
According to the Central Electoral Commission’s information and media communication service, the electoral councils of the electoral districts received requests from 106 potential candidates for the post of MP for registration of initiative groups. Out of these, 96 candidates are appointed by political parties and 10 are independent candidates.
From the time of registration of the initiative groups, their members will start collecting signatures to support candidates for the post of MP. In order to be registered by the district electoral council, the candidate must submit subscription lists containing at least 500 signatures and no more than 1,000 supporters with the right to vote in the case of male candidates and, in the case of women candidates, at least 250 and up to 500 supporters with the right to vote in their constituency.
The appointment of candidates for the position of MP for the national constituency and each uninominal constituency shall end 30 days before the date of elections.
The parliamentary elections of 24 February 2019 will be held after a mixed electoral system, the MPs being elected both on party lists and in constituencies.
