Firefighters warn citizens be cautious with Christmas tree lights, heaters on New Year's eve in Moldova

Chisinau, 31 December /MOLDPRES/ – The employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) recommend that citizens be cautious about the use of fireworks, firecrackers and Christmas tree lights on the night of the New Year's Eve.

The press officer of IGSU, Liliana Puscasu, said that citizens should pay particular attention to the location of the Christmas tree and decorations. It should be set as far as possible from sources of fire such as stoves and fire – places. Also, on the New Year's Eve, there should not be left open windows, because there can accidentally get firecrackers or remnants of fireworks into the dwelling.

It is also necessary for people to strictly adhere to the rules of fire prevention and, in particular, to keep the escape ways free, and not block parking cars for intervention vehicles.

The IGSU's leadership has previously announced that over 500 rescuers and firefighters, as well as 150 firearms, will provide fire safety during the winter holidays.

According to IGSU's information and media communication service, from the beginning of 2018, there have occurred 1,650 bonfires in Moldova. As a result, there died 120 persons, including 6 children.
