Moldovan electoral body registers first electoral contenders for parliamenary polls due on 24 February

Chisinau, 2 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today registered the first electoral contenders in the national constituency for the parliamentary polls due on 24 February.
It is about the electoral contenders on behalf of the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM), Party of Socialists (PSRM), electoral bloc ACUM Dignity and Truth Platform and Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) and the Party of Communists (PCRM).
Fifty three candidates have been registered on behalf of PDM, 54 candidates – on behalf of PSRM, 54 candidates - on behalf of the electoral bloc ACUM Dignity and Truth Platform and PAS and 41 candidates on behalf of PCRM.
Also today, the Commission registered the electoral symbol of the formations and the electoral bloc.
Those three parties and the ACUM electoral bloc submitted the registration documents in the middle of the last week.
The nomination of candidates for MP seats for the national constituency and each uninominal district ends 30 days before the election day. The electoral campaign for the parliamentary elections will start on 25 January, one month before the polls.
The parliamentary polls due on 24 February will be held according to a mixed electoral system; the MPs are to be elected both on party lists and in uninominal districts. Also, on the election day, a consultative referendum will be conducted on cutting the number of lawmakers from 101 to 61 and MPs’ recalling from office, if they fail to properly fulfill their duties.
