Another woman dies of influenza in Moldova

Chisinau, 03 January /MOLDPRES/ – A woman from Rascani district died of influenza A (H1N1) the recent week.
According to the Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection's information and media communication service, the woman was 63 years of age and was not vaccinated against influenza. The victim was diagnosed with influenza A (H1N1), acute bacterial respiratory infection, bilateral pneumonia, pulmonary and cerebral edema, toxic infectious shock.
Totally, there were reported 15 seasonal influenza cases last week, including eight cases confirmed by the laboratory. According to specialists, the epidemiological situation with the flu is below the epidemic threshold.
Over the same period, over 7,200 persons addressed a doctor with acute respiratory infections. Also, the immunisation of persons from the risk groups continues.
The epidemiologists recommend that citizens refrain from self – treatment and contact their doctor for the first symptoms of influenza – compatible disease. The physicians also urge the population and medical staff to use protective masks when assisting and caring for the sick. The recommendations of specialists include washing hands with water and soap, covering the mouth and nose with disposable napkins during coughing and sneezing, avoiding crowded places.
This is the second case of death caused by the flu after a 54-year-old woman died in mid – December of 2018 in Balti municipality. Since the beginning of the cold season, there have been 48 cases of influenza.
