Chisinau, 6 January /MOLDPRES/ - Romania stays the principal destination for tourists from Moldova to mark the Old-style Christmas and New Year, although their number is decreasing. Many Moldovans this year went to resorts from Ukraine or even Bulgaria, where prices are lower, MOLDPRES quotes according the AGERPRES News Agency as saying.

„Vatra Dornei, Sângeorz-Băi, Prahova Valley, Poiana Brașov (Brasov Glade) are the regions preferred by Moldovan tourists, especially by those coming to skiing. Most of them choose vehicles as transport means, as they like to go in bigger  groups.  Those coming by their own touring car choose resorts nearer to the border,’’ the first deputy executive president of the Federation of Romanian Tourism Employees (FPTR), Dragos Raducan, has said.

The average budget allocated by Moldovan tourists for spending these holidays varies between 150 and 200 euros for one person, including the transport. This prompts Moldovan tourists to go to cheaper skiing destinations, such as Bukovel from Ukraine. For this reason, in 2019, the number of Moldovans spending the Old-style Christmas and New Year in Romania is decreasing, the head of the Federation of Associations for the Promotion of Tourism (FAPT), Corina Martin, said.

Tourism sector representatives also said that Romania would enjoy more tourists from Moldova, if there are air connections or a highway Moldova – Transylvania.

This year, public sector employees benefited from three mini-vacations to mark the New Year and Christmas.
