Heavy snowfall recorded in Moldova

Chisinau, 10 January /MOLDPRES/- Heavy snowfall is recorded in the centre and south of the country.

The head of the State Road Administration's Operational Service, Sergiu Capatina, said that during the night, works of patrol, snow removal and combat snow slide were carried out on national roads. "There were 42 special vehicles and 72 workers. Road workers used over 350 tons of anti-skid material. At present, all roads are monitored and if necessary they will intervene,” he said.

According to the city hall, the profile services are involved to overcome problematic situations. The workers are working with 28 machines during the day and at night with 60 vehicles.

At the same time, sloping roads, especially the streets of Ganea, Timiş, Poştei, Vadul lui Voda, Paris, High Bridge, Căuşeni and Uzinelor are declared closed during the snow.

In the difficult weather conditions, Red Union Fenosa company warns economic operators and people to respect security rules on electrical installations. The representatives of the institution recommend people to bypass electric wires that are hanging suspiciously on pillars or trees.

The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has announced Yellow Code of complicated weather conditions for 10-11 January. Snowfall is expected, rain and sleet in the southern region and snowfall is forecast throughout Moldova for 11 January.  The north-western wind will gust up to 15-20 metres/second on 11 January. The air temperature will reach -14 degrees at night in the north and +3 degrees during the day in the south.
