Several customs posts cease activity due to snow on roads in Moldova

Chisinau, 11 January /MOLDPRES/ – Several customs posts have ceased activity today because of the snowy roads in neighbouring countries.

Interviewed by agency, spokeswoman for the Customs Service, Cristina Rau, specified that freight and passenger carriers are being warned about traffic restrictions occurring on the territory of Romania and Ukraine.

"According to info provided by the Romanian partner authorities, there are currently traffic restrictions for all categories of vehicles on the European road E581 between the customs station Albita and Husi. Also, in direction to Iasi, traffic is forbidden only for heavy vehicles, but, according to the information in the post, many car drivers also took the decision to return," said Cristina Rau.

Also, due to the heavy snowfalls in Ukraine and snowdrift on roads, the circulation of buses to Basarabeasca and Ceadar – Lunga customs stations 2 is ceased.

Similarly, ice deposits affected the traffic over the Dniester river, through the Molovata land-based customs station, the activity of which was stopped.

During the Crisis Chamber meeting in the context of heavy snow, Deputy Head of the General Police Inspectorate, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, urged citizens to opt for other crossing points than mentioned. "At the same time, the patrol inspectors will inform the persons about the customs situation on the national routes," said Cavcaliuc.

Today, the Yellow Code remains valid for bad weather conditions. According to meteorologists, there are expected strong snowfalls, occasional snowstorms, snowdrifts on the roads, it will be formed sleet and glazed ice on the electric wires and branches.
