Yellow code of snowfalls, glazed ice maintains for 12 January in Moldova

Chisinau, 11 January /MOLDPRES/ – The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) maintains the Yellow Code for complicated weather conditions for Saturday, 12 January.

According to meteorologists, in connection with the penetration of the southern cyclone, on 11 – 12 January, there are forecasted complicated weather conditions in the country. Thus, today, it will snow all over the country, and tomorrow one can expect sleet and ice. "Temporarily, it will snowstorm, there will form snowdrifts on the roads, with sleet and ice on the electric wires and branches. Northwest wind will increase to 15-20 m/s," says a SHS's release. In the next 24 hours, there are expected temperatures up to 12 – 14ºC, at night, and – 02 – +03ºC, during the day.

At the same time, for 10 – 18 January, it is issued the Yellow Code of unstable ice. According to the hydrologists, the ice will be unstable and hidden under snow in small rivers and water basins of the country, and it will pose greater danger walking on it. The SHS cautions fishermen to be prudent and parents to supervise their children. "It is a more complicated period, when the ice is not safe and going to skate or winter fishing can have tragic consequences, so it is better to avoid these activities, at least during the hydrological warning," explained sources from SHS.

The rescuers also warn the population to take account of weather warnings and not to go on long journeys if there is no need. If these trips are indispensable, the clothing should be appropriate to the outside temperature, and in case of emergency call emergency service 112. Also, people are advised to avoid moving on portions where hang branches and electrical cables as to avoid trauma.

In the case of Yellow Code, weather conditions are potentially dangerous, forecasted weather phenomena are common to the territory of the country but may temporarily become dangerous for certain socio-economic activities.
