One hundredth birthday anniversary of famous actress marked in Moldova

Chisinau, 15 January /MOLDPRES/ - The 100th birthday anniversary of theatre and film actress, People’s Artist, holder of the Order of the Republic, former head of the League of Stage Veterans from Moldova Domnica Darienco is marked today.
A photo documentary exhibition was inaugurated at the National Library of Moldova, on this occasion.
Domnica Darienco was born in the Valea Hotului (presently Dolinske) village, Ananyiv district, Odessa region, Ukraine, in 1919. After finishing the theatre school, Darienco was employed as actress at the A.S. Pushkin Musical and Dramatic Theatre (presently Mihai Eminescu National Theatre), placed initially in Tiraspol and starting from 1944 – in Chisinau, where she worked till 1989.
She debuted in with the part of Kruchinina in the play, Guilty Without Guilt, by A. Ostrovsky, from the Russian classical dramaturgy. Darienco played more than 100 parts, especially from the national and universal dramaturgy.
Domnica Darienco started her work in cinematography in the film Andries in 1955, shot at the Dovzhenko Film Studios from Kiev. The part which marked her in the cinematography was the one of Domnica in the movie, Armageddon (1966). She also played in the films Gustul Pâinii (The Taste of Bread), Ultimul Haiduc (The Last Outlaw), Dincolo de marginea orașului (Beyond the Border of the City), etc.
Domnica Darienco was awarded the honorific titles People’s Artist from the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic (1957) and People’s Artist of the USSR (1974), as well as the Order of the Republic. During 1992-2004, Darienco acted as head of the League of Stage Veterans from Moldova. She died in Chisinau on 6 November 2010 and was buried at the Central Orthodox Cemetery on the Armeneasca Street from the Moldovan capital.
