Chisinau, Dec. 17 /MOLDPRES/- The Energy Ministry has issued a circular to central and local public authorities, urging them to implement concrete measures to make energy consumption in public institutions more efficient. The call comes in the context of the declaration of a state of emergency throughout Moldova for a period of 60 days.

Thus, central and local public authorities are urged to urgently implement measures to make energy consumption more efficient, thus contributing to the reduction of peak-time expenses and other risks caused by the energy crisis.

The Ministry of Energy has presented to public authorities a detailed list of organizational and technical measures, including minimum investments, which can be implemented immediately in public institutions to make electricity and heat consumption more efficient without affecting the comfort of citizens.

The measures aimed at reducing electricity consumption include using natural light and limiting the use of light bulbs in accordance with labor regulations; replacing incandescent light bulbs with LED bulbs, which consume five times less energy; installing motion sensors for lighting in heavily trafficked areas; unplugging chargers after fully charging devices; unplugging electrical appliances when not in use to avoid stand-by consumption.

The measures have been aligned with the decisions taken at the meeting of the Governmental Commission to coordinate measures to prepare for the 2024-2025 heating season and mitigate the impact of the energy crisis.

As of 16 December, a 60-day state of emergency has been declared throughout Moldova. The declaration of a state of emergency was proposed by the Government on the basis of the Report of the Commission for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Moldova, and taking into account the fact that the shortage of energy resources directly and immediately affects the security of the state and its citizens.
