Over 20 people hit by hypothermia, chilblains because of cold in Moldova

Chisinau, 17January /MOLDPRES/ - Over 20 cases of hypothermia and chilblains were recorded last week.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, the spokeswoman for the National Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Assistance Centre, Diana Blanaru, has said that, on the aforementioned period, physicians were asked for help in 21 cases of hypothermia and five cases of chilblains.
„In the last 24 hours, a case of hypothermia was registered in Anenii Noi. Physicians were asked for assistance by an 82-year-old man living in an unheated dwelling. He received medical assistance and was carried to the district hospital. Cases of chilblains were not recorded,” Blanaru noted.
Hypothermias and chilblains are diseases characteristic for the cold season. Children, elderly people with chronic diseases, alcohol consumers, persons with mental diseases and those without dwellings represent the risk groups.
The weather is expected to cool on the days to come. At night, the air temperature is to drop to -10 Celsius degrees in northern Moldova and will record up to 0 degrees in the south during the day. Snow is forecast all over the country.
