„Our goal is to bring our citizens to European living standards, European salaries and pensions, modern infrastructure and living conditions, just as in the EU member states. The joining the EU and the Association Agreement stay the compass, according to which we orient ourselves and harmonize our actions here in Chisinau,” the prime minister noted.
According to the official, Moldova has excellent relations with the neighbours from Bucharest and Kiev and “relies on the support of the USA, which is a strategic partner for our country,” according to Filip. The PM also said that Moldova had signed 43 agreements on free trade with various states. At the same time, Chisinau relies on the support of Romania, in the context that the latter took over the EU Council’s presidency on 1 January 2019. Moldova has also a joint roadmap with Romania, through which all projects on interconnection agreed upon will be monitored.
The prime minister stressed that Moldova had made progress also on the Transnistrian dimension. “We demanded clearly, repeatedly, at the United Nations rostrum, the withdrawal of the Russian troops from the territory of Moldova; the farmers can till their farmlands again; we have settled the problem of schools; we allocated 15 million lei for developing schools and infrastructure in the Transnistrian region,” Filip said.
The prime minister specified that, “during the mandate of the current government, for the first time since 1992, the Moldovan authorities can control the entire border of the country, including on the central segment or the Transnistrian segment.”
