Professional Day of Diplomat marked in Moldova today

Chisinau, 17 January /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova in 2018 was active internationally and involved in the continuation of the European construction. The 2019 year does nothing, but confirms and boosts the earlier efforts, as in a permanently quickly changing world, the diplomacy has the role of “first violin” in the promotion of the foreign policy and the interests of the state. Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi has made statements to this effect at a festive ceremony held on the occasion of the Professional Day of Diplomat, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s (MAEIE) press service has reported.
Minister Tudor Ulianovschi said that, due to the performance of the national diplomatic corps, which comprises fulfilled diplomats, as well as a lot of gifted young people, “the 2018 year can certainly be described as a successful one for the Moldovan diplomacy.”Through skill and professionalism, Moldovan diplomats enhance Moldova’s performance internationally, thus significantly contributing to the promotion and carrying out of Moldova’s foreign policy, ensuring premises for the implementation of the economic, social and political reforms, the country’s reintegration, strengthening the positive image on the international stage and protection of the rights of the citizens living abroad,” the Moldovan diplomacy head said.
According to Ulianovschi, the voting by the General Assembly of the United Nations Organization of a resolution on the complete and unconditional withdrawal of the foreign military forces from Moldova, opening of the embassy in the United Arab Emirates, signing of 65 multilateral and bilateral treaties, setting up of the National Diplomatic Institute, consolidation of the strategic partnerships with EU, with the European Union member states, with the United States, Canada and other states, fostering of the Moldovan diplomacy, re-launch on pragmatic bases of Moldova’s relations with states outside the European Union, especially in the area of the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Latin America and others – are just some of the achievements of the Moldovan diplomacy in 2018.
The foreign affairs and European integration minister stressed that, in the long run, “we will do our utmost to have a more efficient, omnipresent, active and anticipatory diplomacy, and as for the dimension of the national interests, we guide ourselves by the principle that we must never negotiate for fear, but we should not be afraid of negotiating.”
Attending the event, Prime Minister Pavel Filip congratulated the national diplomatic corps on the professional holiday. He noted the diplomatic corps’ contribution to the promotion of the national interests, both within the international and regional institutions, and in the bilateral relations with various states of the world. The PM specified that the Moldovan diplomacy had an important contribution to ensuring a friendly international climate for the promotion of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, including within the UNO and OSCE, of important documents for Moldova.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip said that Moldova would remain firmly connected to the European development model and the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry would continue playing the central role in the coordination of this process.
The honorary guest of the event, Foreign Affairs Minister of Romania Teodor Melescanu, as well as the senior of the diplomatic corps accredited in Moldova, Georgia’s Ambassador in Chisinau Merab Antadze also came up with congratulatory messages on the Professional Day of Diplomat. They appreciated the work of the national diplomatic corps, bilateral cooperation, etc.
At the event, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi awarded, for the first time ever, the medal The Diplomatic Merit to a group of persons; the medal has been recently established under a Moldovan cabinet’s decision.
The flag of the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry was raised at the MAEIE’s headquarters today morning, on the occasion of the Professional Day of Diplomat.
