Chisinau, 17 January /MOLDPRES/ – The premiere of performance: Livada de visini (The cherry orchard) by A.P. Chekhov directed by Alexandru Cozub will take place on 19 January, at 18:00, at the National Theatre Mihai Eminescu.
At a press conference today, the theatre secretary, art critic Larisa Turea, mentioned that this play, which Chekhov considered to be comedy, Stanislavski – tragedy, and on the poster from the premiere in 1904, wrote drama, becomes, in the view of Alexandru Cozub, a tragicomedy, a savory show about the thirst of shared love, the need for meaning and fulfillment.
According to Larisa Turea, three generations of egocentric, naive, wasting, and idle characters do not listen to each other and they do not even want it: they are only gathered by yhr Orchard, more of the remembrance than the blossoming under the windows. "It is a play about the transition, being quite an actual one. The merit of Alexandru Cozub is that he brings back those characters, for which the eradication is a misfortune. It is about releasing without which they can not adapt. The director knew how to keep the craving of Chekhov for the characters, which is very rare today in the theatre", noted Larisa Turea.
In this context, director Cozub said that The cherry orchard is a piece that lasts in time, not by its subject, but by the relationship between people, which was the same one hundred years ago and will be so. The cherry orchard will always be actual. A.P. Chekhov enjoys great success and is mounted all over the world. In this sense, by popularity, it is the second in the world after Shakespeare, although it has only four more important pieces. The most difficult one for an actor is to find himself in this material to see in front of the spectator, which is sensitised and which gets better," said Alexandru Cozub.
Tinca Mardari, which plays the role of Ana Ranevskaia, the 17 – year – old daughter of the main heroine, said that the character reminded of her childhood and she tried to put in her a lot of soul, put on her look and shoulders. "This role urges us not to forget about childhood and keep it in the holy place – that of the house," said Tinca Mardari.
At his turn, actor Victor Nofit said that the role of Lopahin Ermolai Alexeevici, a merchant which was entrusted with this show, was played by the great actors of the time. "Lopahin is a very important character. He represents the new man which makes the change and the one that comes with the change," added Victor Nofit.
The cast includes: Margareta Pantea (landlady Ranevskaia Liubov Andreevna), Doina Severin (the 24 – year – old adoptive daughter), Nicolae Suveica (Gaev Leonid Andreevici, brother of Ranevskaia), Alexandru Plesca (Trofimov Piotr Sergheevici, student), Petru Oistric (Simionov – Piscik Boris Borisovici, landlord), Ghenadie Galca (Epihodov Semion Panteleevici, accountant), Ana Tkacenko (Duneasa, girl in the house), Nicolae Darie (Firs, lacquey, 87 years old) etc.
