As many as 125 polling stations to be opened outside Moldova for polls due on 24 February

Chisinau, 18 January /MOLDPRES/ - A number of 125 polling stations will be opened outside Moldova for the parliamentary elections due on 24 February 2019. The cabinet adopted a decision to this end.  

Under the decision, most polling stations will be opened in Italy – 29, Romania and the USA – 12 in each, Russia – 11, France – 7, Portugal and Spain – 5 in each, Four polling stations will be opened in the United Kingdom, three polling stations will be opened in Ukraine, Canada and Turkey each and two polling stations will be opened in Israel, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Belarus, Ireland and Germany each.   

One polling station will be opened in each of the following countries: Greece, China, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Poland, Sweden, Estonia, Lithuania, Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria, the Swiss Confederation, the Netherlands, Qatar, Japan, Croatia, Georgia, the United Arab Emirates and Norway.

At the cabinet meeting, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi said that, this year, by 25 polling stations more would be opened abroad against the elections held in 2016.    

To avoid situations emerged in the polls from 2016, when the stocks of ballot papers finished, the parliament increased the overall number of ballot papers which can be distributed to one polling station from 3,000 to 5,000.   

The polling stations, including the ones from abroad, are set up 35 days ahead of the polls at the latest.

Data by the Central Electoral Commission shows that 25,000 Moldova’s citizens with right of vote, who live abroad, as well as those with residence on the left bank of Dniester have registered preliminarily, in order to participate in the parliamentary elections and the consultative republican referendum due on 24 February 2019.
