Chisinau, 21 January /MOLDPRES/ – The authorities of Chisinau will buy 32 new buses. The announcement was made today by the head of the General Direction of Public Transport and Communications, Vitalie Butucel, during the weekly meeting of Chisinau City Hall.
According to Butucel, the working group on bus purchase was formed on 02 January.
"The auction was announced and will take place on 08 February. Until then, interested companies are invited to bid," said Butucel.
At his turn, acting mayor of Chisinau, Ruslan Codreanu, specified that there have not been established the routes and itinerary of buses by now. "We do not have to hurry and come up with proposals regarding the routes and itinerary of new buses, because first we have to establish precisely the areas where there are attested the biggest issues with the public transport," said Codreanu.
For procurement of buses from the municipal budget, it was allocated an amount of MDL 80 million.
Earlier this year, the local authorities announced that existing buses are over 20 years old and the city spends MDL 15 million yearly for repairing them. Thus, out of the 100 buses in the existing bus park, 35 are damaged daily and the new ones have not been purchased for 12 years.
