Moldovan PM meets president of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

Chisinau, 21 January /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today had a meeting with President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly George Tsereteli. The Transnistrian conflict, measures to consolidate the confidence between the two banks of Dniester and the parliamentary elections represented the principal topics of discussion, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.    

The PM thanked the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly for the continuous support provided to Moldova in the promotion of the dialogue between the two banks of Dniester, integration of national minorities, justice reform and strengthening the rule of law state.

Pavel Filip reviewed the progress made in the Transnistrian conflict settlement through the signing of more protocol decisions. Among the principal achievements, the prime minister named: ensuring a good work of the Latin-script schools, apostilling the education diplomas from Tiraspol, ensuring the access of farmers from the eastern Dubasari district to their farmlands, as well as allowing vehicles with neutral registration numbers to the international traffic.   

„If there is support, results can be achieved. We will make consolidated efforts in order to maintain this positive dynamic in continuation,” Pavel Filip said. The PM appreciated the contribution of the partners to the promotion of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, noting that the 5+2 format was the most suitable one to this end. At the same time, the prime minister asked the OSCE to more actively get involved in facilitating the evacuation of the ammunitions from Cobasna, which represents a danger in the region.      

For his part, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly George Tsereteli  confirmed the OSCE PA’s willingness to further back Moldova in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process.

The officials exchanged opinions on the forthcoming parliamentary polls. George Tsereteli welcomed the authorities’ firm commitment to organize free, fair and transparent elections, by observing all international standards. In this respect, the prime minister appreciated the OSCE’s willingness to monitor the 24 February polls, stressing the importance of objectiveness on behalf of the team of observers.
