Moldovan historian, archaeologist celebrates 65th anniversary

Chisinau, 22 January /MOLDPRES/ – The well – known archaeologist and medievist historian, university professor Gheorghe Postica, PhD in history, awarded the National Prize of Moldova and of the Romanian Academy A. D. Xenopol, celebrates the 65th anniversary.
He was born in 1954 in village Mereni, Anenii Noi district. In 1976 he graduated from the Faculty of History of the State University of Moldova. He subsequently studied postgraduate studies at the Department of Archeology of the State University Mihail Lomonosov in Moscow (1979 – 1983) and postdoctoral studies at the State University of Moldova (2005 – 2006).
In 1988, he held a PhD thesis in history in Moscow on theme: The early medieval ceramics in Central Moldova at the end of the first millennium – the beginning of the second millennium of our era as a historical source and in 2007 – doctoral thesis in history with theme: The early medieval civilization in the Prut – Nistrian space (V – VIII centuries). In 1992 he was awarded the title of university lecturer and in 2009 he was the professor. He is the author of over 200 scientific papers. He has carried out various archaeological researches in Moldova and abroad.
Gheorghe Postica was a lecturer at the Faculty of History of the State University of Moldova (1978 – 1985), senior lecturer (1985 – 1988), dean of the Faculty of History and Ethnology (1989 – 1991), head of the chair, associate professor and professor (throughout cumulus) at the State Pedagogical University Ion Creanga in Chisinau. He also served as Deputy director of the Institute of Archeology and Old History of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Head of the Daco – Roman and Medieval Archeology Section (1991 – 1995), Vice – dean for Studies at the International Free University of Moldova (1995 – 1998).
From 2009 until 2017, Gheorghe Postica held the position of Deputy Minister of Culture, and since 2017 he has been the head of the Cabinet of the Minister of Education, Culture and Research. He is the winner of the National Prize of Moldova and A. D. Xenopol of the Romanian Academy. Gheorghe Postica was awarded the medals of Order of Honour, Civic Merit and Mihai Eminescu.
