Chisinau, 22 January /MOLDPRES/ - The employees of the Moldpresa press distribution company today staged protests outside the Moldovan capital’s city hall and spoke out against the municipal authorities’ decision to evacuate the news stalls of the institution.
The Moldpresa employees demanded that the institution’s booths not be closed and not be evacuated from Chisinau, as they lose their jobs.
At the protest, a member of the executive bureau of the Communications Trade Unions Federation of Moldova, Svetlana Baschir, said that “the institution’s employees are willing to be able to work in continuation.” “Everybody has families, has children and they have no money to feed them. People are infringed the right to work in their country,” Baschir noted.
For his part, the Chisinau acting mayor, Ruslan Codreanu, informed the protesters that, “during 2-3 days, he will analyze the situation and will come up with a solution to this end.”
The evacuation of the Moldpresa booths takes place based on a regulation approved by the Chisinau Municipal Council. Following the evacuation of the news stalls, more than 800 employees run the risk of losing their jobs. So far, 24 news stalls have been closed in the centre of Chisinau.
