Chisinau, 22 January /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s authorities make their utmost for the parliamentary elections to be held freely and fairly. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu made statements to this effect at the end of a weekly meeting of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) today.
According to Candu, on the last period, more and more opposition politicians have been trying to create the impression that the 24 February polls would be rigged. “Regretfully, we witness noxious processes launched by the opposition leaders. They attempt, by all means possible, to create the impression and perception that these elections will be rigged and they eventually must not be recognized. The idea is promoted just on these moments in Bucharest, in a luxurious hotel, by a former adviser of a politician from Moldova, at a roundtable titled, From the One Billion Theft to the Theft of Elections. These opposition politicians do nothing but look for excuses as early as now,” Candu noted.
The parliament speaker also said that the opposition had accused the authorities of the fact that they would use the integrity certificates as an obstacle or instrument of delimiting the registration of the candidates, which has actually not happened. ”Now, speculations have started concerning the polling stations from abroad. The citizens of Moldova living abroad should also understand that there is a big difference between what was at the previous polls and what there is now. The authorities doubled the number of ballot papers. While at the previous elections, 300,000 citizens living abroad were able to vote, now 600,000 can vote, as there are 125 polling stations,” Candu said.
The speaker specified that the Democratic Party’s rating had been increasing in opinion polls in the last time. “This is due to the fact that we fulfill our promises before the citizens. PDM’s rating is improving in opinion polls, as it is able to work well and is organized. The Democratic Party wants most of all that these polls are fair and are recognized,” Candu added.
Moldova’s citizens are expected to come to vote at the parliamentary polls on 24 February 2019.
