Chisinau, 22 January /MOLDPRES/ – The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) accredited altogether over 850 national and international observers to monitor the parliamentary elections of 24 February 2019.
At a press conference, the chairman of CEC, Alina Russu, said that out of the total number of registered observers: 159 are international and 700 are national.
"After the Legislature set the date for parliamentary scrutiny, the Commission submitted formal invitations to all international organisations and embassies of foreign states accredited in Moldova to monitor the elections. The interest in this election is quite high, both from international observers and from national ones. Most national observers represent the public association Promo – LEX. The requests for accreditation of observers for parliamentary elections can be filed at least seven days prior elections, so their number will increase," said Alina Russu.
For the presidential election in 2016, the CEC accredited a total of over 3,700 observers, out of which approximately 550 international ones. Also, for the second round of local elections in Chisinau in 2018, the Commission accredited about 800 national and international observers.
