Road workers continue removing of snow, fight ice in Moldova

Chisinau, 24 January /MOLDPRES/ – It is snowing all over Moldova, and snowmobile works continued last night and fighting the slide.
The head of operative service of the State Road Administration (ASD), Sergiu Capatina, said that it snowed in the north and in the centre last night, and in the southern area it occurred precipitation in the form of heavy rain and low snow.
"There were involved 121 vehicles and 121 workers in road cleaning. The road workers used over 854 tonnes of anti – skid material. The road traffic on national roads is ensured under winter conditions. The dangerous sectors are monitored and intervened as necessary," said Capatina.
According to the Chisinau city hall’s information and media communication service, the public transport circulates on all scheduled routes, according to the programme. The snow – clearing services act to prevent sleet formation on the streets, stops, block yards, parks and squares.
The Exdrupo company intervined with 18 trucks in the morning, scattering 170 m3 of anti – skid material on the arteries of Chisinau and access roads to the suburbs. The road workers continue to operate on public transport streets with 23 machines.
Also, the housing and communal department has 13 specialised vehicles, on the sidewalks, and 380 workers are clean and sprinkle the anti – skid material in the stops of public transport.
The municipal authorities urge citizens to exercise caution when crossing the streets in unfavourable weather conditions, and Chisinau economic agents and property managers are called upon to clean the snow from the territory in which they operate. Also, the dreivers are asked not to park on the edges and sidewalks to avoid crowding traffic and allow snow cleaning vehicles to intervene in due time.
Interviewed by agency, the press officer of the National Patrol Inspectorate (INP), Natalia Golovco, said that during snow and ice, drivers are urged to increase the distance between cars. "The patrol inspectors recommend drivers not to travel at excessive speed, avoid dangerous maneuvers, check the condition of brakes, equip the vehicle with winter tyres, anti – skid chains, shovel, scraper and sandbag. Similarly, the pedestrians are warned to walk only the signaling crossings after a thorough insurance," said Golovco.
The Border Police (PF) has announced that at present all crossing points are operating under normal conditions, and weather conditions have not influenced the work schedule, flow of people and the means of transport.
According to the Chisinau International Airport's (AIC) official website, the air traffic is carried out in normal regime, without any delays or cancellation of races.
In upcoming days, the weather keeps cool. At night, thermometres will indicate up to – 08ºC in the north of Moldova, and the day will record up to + 03ºC in the south. It will snow throughout the territory of the country.
