Moldovan electoral body approves model, text of ballot papers for consultative republican referendum

Chisinau, 24 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today approved the model and text of the ballot papers for the consultative republican referendum due on 24 February.
A CEC member, Veaceslav Agrigoroae, said that the paper of the ballot papers will be dull. “The text: “Do you agree with the cutting of the number of MPs from 101 to 61?” will be printed on one ballot paper of the yellow pale colour. The text: “Do you agree with the people being able to recall (dismiss) lawmakers from office, if they fail to properly fulfill their duties?” will be printed on a ballot paper of the yellow beige colour,” Agrigoroae said.
Also today, CEC approved the model of the ballot paper in the uninominal districts for the parliamentary polls. “The paper of the ballot paper will be dull, of the violet colour. The electoral contenders will be registered with capital letters, which will have the same size. The list is established according to drawing lots,” Veaceslav Agrigoroae added.
On 24 February 2019, voters will get another ballot paper, which will contain the list of parties registered in the national electoral district.
The parliamentary polls due on 24 February will be held according to a mixed electoral system; the MPs are to be elected both on party lists and in uninominal districts. Also, on the election day, a consultative referendum will be conducted on cutting the number of lawmakers from 101 to 61 and MPs’ recalling from office, if they fail to properly fulfill their duties.
