Election campaign for parliamentary scrutiny starts in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 January /MOLDPRES/ – The electoral campaign for parliamentary elections of 24 February starts today, one month before the polls.

According to the Electoral Code, the competitors enrolled in the parliamentary race "may be agitated in meetings, rallies, meetings with voters, throughout mass media, exposing electoral posters or other forms of communication."

At the same time, the local public administration authorities are obliged, within 03 days from the start of the electoral campaign, to establish and guarantee a minimum of special electoral places, as well as premises for holding meetings with voters.

The electoral campaign activities can only be done by competitors registered in the electoral race. So far, the Commission has registered 09 electoral contestants in the national constituency, including 08 political parties and 01 electoral bloc, and the files of 06 competitors are in the process of being examined.

The registered candidates are: the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Party of Socialists of Moldova (PSRM), electoral bloc ACUM Platform DA and PAS, Party of Communists of Moldova (PCRM), the Party of Shor, Our Party, the People's Movement Anti – Mafia, the National Liberal Party (PNL) and Political Party People's Will.

Also, for the Republican Consultative Referendum on 24 February, CEC registered 02 participants, one with option: Pentru (For), another with option: Contra (Against), and there are 04 other applications under review.

The parliamentary scrutiny of 24 February will be held after a mixed electoral system, with MPs elected both on party lists and in constituencies. Also, on the day of the elections, there will be an advisory referendum on reducing the number of MPs from 101 onto 61 and dismissing them if they fail to fulfill properly their duties.
