Chisinau, 28 January /MOLDPRES/ - The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has informed about a Yellow Code of ice destruction till 2 February.
According to hydrologists, the gradual destruction of the ice layers is forecast in the water basins of Moldova. The ice will be thin, fragile and imbibed with water; getting out on ice will pose increased danger. “Therefore, we warn fishermen to be cautious and parents should supervise their children,” reads a SHS press release.
The weather will warm on the days to come; the maximum air temperatures will increase to +6 - +8 Celsius degrees all over Moldova during the day and will vary between -2 and +3 degrees at night.
These warming will favour the melting of snow and will boost the formation of leakings on slopes. In this respect, economic agents owning reservoirs are warned to check the state of dams and carry out consolidation works, where necessary.
Sources from the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry (MADRM) told MOLDPRES, that, in January, the winter crops were in state of vegetative repose; yet, in years with mild winter, thaws are dangerous. “These are frequent phenomena on the territory of Moldova. The most dangerous ones are thaws with daily average air temperature of +5 Celsius degrees and higher. During these thaws, the vegetation of winter crops and fruit trees is resumed, with their subsequent harming possible, if the air temperature drops sharply. The number of days with thaw is of 12-18 on average in Moldova in January,” MADRM specialists said.
