Holocaust's victims commemorated at rally in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 29 January /MOLDPRES/ - The victims of the Holocaust today were commemorated during a rally requiem at the memorial venue For the Fascism’s Victims in Chisinau, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported. 

”I pay, on behalf of the state Republic of Moldova and of all the country’s citizens,  homage to the most horrible tragedy and we honour the survivors. We must learn the tragic lessons of the history, be more tolerant, more open, more constructive and with more respect to each other,” Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu said.   

”The Holocaust is the lesson each of must learn, in order to remain people. Our duty is not to forget to commemorate those six million Jews, of whom 1.5 million children, who became martyrs all over the world and do everything for the tragedy not to repeat,” Vice President of the Knesset (parliament) of Israel Tali Ploskov has said. As a token of deep gratitude for the martyrs, the State of Israel, through the Yad Vashem Institute, under a special law adopted by the Knesset, awards the honorific title Righteous Among the Nations. Seventy nine persons from Moldova received this honorific title.   

The head of the Jewish Community of Moldova, Alexander Bilinkis, thanked the authorities for the programme of actions organized to commemorate the Holocaust’s victims and for the political will they proved. Alexander Bilinkis said that the Alley Righteous Among the Nations was to be inaugurated at the memorial venue for the Fascism’s Victims.   

MPs, ministers, representatives of international organizations and diplomatic missions, members of the Jewish and Romany communities participated in the rally organized on the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.  

Moldova’s parliament condemned the Holocaust, by adopting a political declaration on the acceptance of the Report of the International Commission on the Holocaust in July 2016.  

The National Holocaust Remembrance Day has been annually marked in Moldova since 2015, under a decision approved by the parliament.
