Management of Moldova's General Police Inspectorate urges citizens, political actors to abstain from illegal actions in electoral campaign

Chisinau, 29 January /MOLDPRES/ - The management of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP) has urged the citizens and actors involved in the electoral campaign to abstain from illegal actions and if they notice incidents, to immediately inform the law-enforcers. IGP head Alexandru Panzari made statements to this effect at a news conference today.
The institution’s leadership presented more incidents, about which media spread news that they would be connected with the electoral campaign.
In the first case, it is about the setting fire on a vehicle in the southern Ceadar-Lunga district. “Law-enforcers investigate the incident within a criminal file. More video recordings were raised, in which one can see that fire was set on the vehicle deliberately. Earlier, stories were spread that the car would have been burned on political grounds; yet, decision-makers established that the reason would be connected with the business of carrying passengers. Ahead of the incident, the price for travels to Turkey was cut by 50 per cent and competitors threatened the enterprise’s management not to do this. Presently, law-enforcers are looking for the perpetrators,” Panzari said.
Another case took place in Edinet. According to the police, one of the candidates for the MP office said he had been physically and orally aggressed by three people. Based on a complaint, the persons were identified. They proved to be residents of the Edinet town, with ages between 23 and 31 years. During hearings, the persons said that they had been discontented that they were filmed. Presently, the degree of the bodily harms is to be established. Also, an internal investigation was started, after law-enforces were charged with failing to act in time.
At the same time, the IGP management also presented an incident which took place in Ungheni, where an electoral panel of a candidate for the MP seat was deteriorated. Video recordings were raised on this case and the perpetrators are established now. Policemen initiated a contravention action.
Alexandru Panzari also unveiled a case which took place in Orhei. Here, a private person, who is member of the initiative group of an electoral contender, would have been aggressed orally and physically by five women. The latter were sanctions following investigations.
The latest incident took place in the Balti municipality, where fire was set on a vehicle. Law-enforcers found signs of deliberate setting fire. It is about match-boxes, petrol and a piece made of plastic. The car’s owner is the son of an electoral contender from the Balti constituency, law-enforcers said.
At the conference, the IGP management reiterated that the policemen would ensure security at public events. At the same time, electoral contenders were urged to inform law-enforcers in advance about the organization of electoral events, in order to be attend them.
