Three persons die of influenza in Moldova last week

Chisinau, 29 January /MOLDPRES/ - Three persons died of A (H1N1) influenza on 21-27 January; all the three were unvaccinated. As many as 541 cases of flu have been recorded in Moldova since the beginning of the cold season.
According to the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, on 21-27 January, the morbidity because of acute infections of airways exceeded the epidemic threshold and grew by 44.1 per cent against the week before.
On the same period, specialists registered 270 cases of seasonal flu, of which 62 confirmed in laboratory, 16,134 cases of acute infections of upper airways and 680 cases of severe acute respiratory infections. The samples collected from people sick with flu showed the presence of the virus A (H1N1) and A(H3N2). The people who suffered of flu were not vaccinated.
Data by the World Health Organization shows that the flu activity continues to grow in the European region. A large number of flu virus disease cases are recorded in Romania and Ukraine.
To avoid the falling sick, epidemiologists recommend that citizens do not resort to self-treatment and appeal to doctor at the appearance of the first symptoms compatible with influenza. Ill persons should avoid contact with pregnant women, immune-compromised people, persons with cardiovascular diseases, chronic diseases of the respiratory apparatus, diabetes and obesity.
