Chisinau, 30 January /MOLDPRES/- The government has adopted a decision on the organization of the Agency for Energy Efficiency (AEE), an administrative authority subordinated to the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, due to be organized by merger (absorption) with the Energy Efficiency Fund.
Under the decision, the AEE will approve within one month the staff and submit it for approval to the State Chancellery. Duties, rights and obligations of the Energy Efficiency Fund will go entirely to the Agency for Energy Efficiency. The reorganization is part of the reform of the central specialized public administration, started in 2018.
The reorganization was preceded by functional analyzes performed for both authorities at the command of the Swedish Agency for International Cooperation and Development and the EU Delegation in Chisinau during 2015-2017.
The Agency has the mission to implement state policy on energy efficiency, including by attracting and managing financial resources to fund and promote energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
The AEE will also promote the energy performance of buildings, as well as the use of renewable energy sources, including by attracting and managing financial resources to finance projects in these areas in a sustainable way from the point of view of the environment and climate change.
Following the adoption of the Law on energy efficiency in a new version, the Agency for Energy Efficiency will perform a significantly greater number of tasks. Moreover, in March 2018 amendments were made to the Law on the promotion of the use of renewable energy, and the Agency for Energy Efficiency is responsible for the implementation of state policy in this field as well.
