Moldovan producers of berries can get grants from U.S. Government

Chisinau, 31 January /MOLDPRES/ - Producers of berries from Moldova will be able to benefit from grants on behalf of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Applications can be submitted till 1 March 2019.
The grants will be provided within the USAID High Value Agriculture Activity Project (HVAA), which is set to back activities of innovation and technological transfer in the horticultural sector. At the same time, the practices of production and post-harvesting are to be improved within the value chain of berries, especially for strawberries and, to a lesser extent, for blackberries.
Through the providing of these grants, the project is interested in supporting activities due to present new varieties of raspberries through the use of innovating support systems; to provide technological solutions for the joint production and sale through clusters/cooperatives/associations; to offer solutions for post-harvesting activities and needs of depositing in cool places for groups of producers, in order to optimize the chain of supply with berries and enhance the capacity of sales.
Potential beneficiaries can ask for financing for one or more activities. The project anticipates the providing of about 1.9 million lei for financing grant activities; yet, beneficiaries are to contribute with at least 50 per cent of the overall value of the activity.
The process of getting financing will be analyzed at a workshop, held at the USAID on 6 February.
The USAID High Value Agriculture Activity Project during 2016-2021 is set to contribute to the development of the agricultural sector, in order to boost the economic growth and changes in rural settlements, thus enhancing the well-being of the Moldovan residents. To achieve this goal, the HVAA project, along with agricultural entrepreneurs, associations of users of water for irrigation and other partners, contribute to the increase in the profitability of each hectare of farmland, improving of the quality and productivity of products cultivated, increasing the sales on the local and international market and encouraging partners in the agricultural sector.
