Influenza epidemic threshold exceeded in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 4 February /MOLDPRES/ - The epidemiological situation for flu is worsened and the influenza epidemic threshold has been exceeded in the Moldovan capital.
Data by the Chisinau-based Public Health Centre shows that nine deaths caused by flu have been recorded in the Moldovan capital since the beginning of the cold season. None of the persons who died of influenza were vaccinated against this disease.
According to data by the World Health Organization, the situation in terms of flu is difficult also in the neighbor countries with Moldova. Flu epidemic has been announced in Romania, with 54 deaths registered there. The epidemic threshold is exceeded also in most regions of Ukraine (Kiev, Kharkiv, Chernivtsi, Odessa). Twenty eight people have died in Ukraine since the beginning of the flu season.
To avoid the falling sick, epidemiologists recommend that citizens do not resort to self-treatment and appeal to doctor at the appearance of the first symptoms compatible with influenza. Ill persons should avoid contact with pregnant women, immune-compromised people, persons with cardiovascular diseases, chronic diseases of the respiratory apparatus, diabetes and obesity.
